Chapter 01 · The leaving
Palace-born. Moon-raised. The crown never fit those ears.
Kip is a royal fennec of the dunes. He left the oasis and chose the people instead. He jumped the dune wall, walked into the trenches, and sat. That was the whole plan.
Chapter 02 · The night he left
The lanterns died behind him. The moon kept the secret.
No announcement. No court. Wind in the ears, sand in the fur, a crooked circlet that would not stay on. He did not run. He walked until the palace was a rumor, then he sat where the chain could see him.
The den started that night. Everyone else arrived later.
